Time flies when you are living through a global pandemic!!
I remember last year that Angelica Malin, at About Time Magazine, asked if I would offer a comment for her debut book, She Made It – The Toolkit for Female Founders in the Digital Age.
I obviously jumped at the chance as I not only do I love her work, but Angelica has been a real support of me and my business over the past few years, evening naming me as one of the top women in media to watch in 2019, so it was an absolute honour.
Fast forward a couple of lockdowns, shortage of loo roll, and a gluttony of banana bread later, and that book is now OUT!
Congratulations, Angelica, you made it.
While I am yet to grab my copy from the Amazon man, I wanted to let you know about this book as I am pretty sure it will be ideal lockdown reading, as well as inspiration for anyone out there who is looking for their next steps towards becoming an entrepreneur who is in charge of their destiny…yes, it really will help you to do that.
So, what’s it all about?
I have it, on good authority, that She Made It is the 2021 go-to guide when it comes to launching your own business, as well as finding your feet and voice as a woman in business, something that can feel tricky at the start, and something Angelica knows a huge amount about.
If you are looking for dry, academic examples and out of date charts, this isn’t for you, but if you want to get to grips with how to be your own boss, how to run a start-up, the ins and outs of running a team as well as how to get investment, this book is bang on the money.
As an entrepreneur and female business owner myself, I know only too well that you can work long hours, over service, and go around in circles when it comes to branding and positioning, but with Angelica sitting beside you and leading the way, I am pretty sure you will get to grips with all of the basics and so much more.
While I got out of the 9 to 5 over 15 years ago, I am really looking forward to sitting down with my copy of She Made It and I have a hunch that it could help to you change your outlook on what being a business woman really looks like, and give you that final nudge to go out there and do it!
I know that for me, there is no other option than to work for myself, well unless Jimmy Choo called and asked me to coach their PR teams, then I might consider being an employee. As well as being an author, coach, mentor and trainer, I am also a mum, wife, sister, friend and the lucky owner of two dogs, and I need to make all of those things work, so having my own business, is the way to go for me.
I do know, however, that going out there on your own can be scary and taking that first step is something that can be put off for a longtime, however, it can also be exciting, empowering and liberating. It might not happen overnight, but if you have a vision and plan, are prepared to put in the hours and work super hard to make your dreams a reality, you really can do it. It might feel that right now isn’t the time to launch something new, and that you need the stability of your job, and that is fine, but right now is the time to ready Angelica’s book, to be inspired and start planning some new and exciting for you.
Sending love and happy new year wishes.
