Today, Simona Mazenyte is ‘In the Spotlight’ on the NTC blog. This Chelsea based Skin Therapist is the founder of Skin Aspirations and takes her clients on a unique journey when it comes to taking care of their complexions so they look and feel their best.
My name is Simona Mazenyte and I have worked as a Skin Therapist for five years in various skin clinics in London. During my career, I recognised the skin care industry’s one-size-fits-all approach was not in-sync with what a client needs in their desire for healthy skin. As a result, I had a burning desire to start my own skin clinic, Skin Aspirations, which provides customised, benefits-driven treatments that garner real results.
Who is your target audience and how do you communication with them?
My target audience is anyone looking for healthy, glowing skin. I communicate to potential and existing clients through social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), emails and text messages.
What are the main challenges you face.
The most challenging part was figuring out how to acquire customers. I had many a sleepless night thinking about how to cost-effectively get the word out about my skin clinic and get people to pay for my service. As I couldn’t pay for PR, SEO specialists or brand managers, I had to find a scalable and affordable customer acquisition strategy.
What is your USP?
My USP is that I can make a huge difference in your skin health and appearance by choosing customised and correct skin care. I take clients on a customised journey to achieve long-lasting results by using products that I love and believe in.
Who would be your business mentor and why?
It would be with Danné Montague-King. He founded the DMK Skincare system which has transformed many lives. Frustrated by the absence of a treatment for his own acne, he was inspired to create a solution with deep and long-lasting results.
If you could appear in any publication, what would it be and why?
I would love to appear in Aesthetic Medicine magazine. It is a B2B magazine for aesthetic professionals which shares knowledge on improving cosmetic appearance through the treatment of conditions including scars, wrinkles, unwanted hair and pigmentation. It would be an honour to share my learnings with other aesthetic professionals.
What words of wisdom can you give anyone thinking about starting their own business?
A common myth that I heard was that most successful entrepreneurs have a well-developed business plan and idea before taking action. I had a fairly basic business plan on the type and price of services that my skin clinic would offer.
My approach was to adjust the services and prices based on the success I was receiving. I learnt that the most important thing is developing the entrepreneurial mindset at the start rather than a well-developed business plan.
How do you keep a work life balance going? Or do you?
Starting up a new business can strain your work life balance. My husband and I have got into the habit of sitting down and enjoying dinner and a chat before we go to bed. We don’t bring any distractions such as a mobile phone to the dinner table. Every evening can be different, but that sit down over dinner reminds me that enjoying my personal life is far more important than any work.
Who or what inspires you?
Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook, is an inspiration. I particularly like her talks on resilience, hope, and strength. One of my favourite Sheryl Sandberg quotes is – “Finding gratitude and appreciation is key to resilience. People who take the time to list things they are grateful for are happier and healthier.”
